Since 2009, World Day of Social Justice on February 20 has been a reminder that we must work together worldwide for equal opportunities, human rights and social participation. But what does social justice mean in concrete terms? And what role do companies play in this?
Social justice – a common goal?
In Germany, the principle of solidarity applies, anyone in need should receive support. But is that enough? Is our system fair enough? Social justice does not just mean having equal rights on paper, but also equal opportunities in life. Education, fair wages and access to medical care should not depend on social status.
While it is easier to stand up for each other in small groups, in a country of over 80 million people we must rely on functioning social structures. This responsibility cannot be delegated to individuals or (political) leaders – it starts with each and every one of us.

Companies as drivers of social justice
With their decisions, companies not only influence the economy, but also the social structure of a society. Fair cooperation begins within one’s own organization with fair working conditions and equal opportunities. However, action beyond the boundaries of the company is also essential.
Our contribution to greater justice – Social Days
As a company, we also take responsibility. In addition to our daily commitment, we regularly offer Social Days where our employees can actively support social projects. These days are not only an opportunity to do good, but also a chance to not only discuss social justice in theory, but to experience it in real life.
Can we ensure social justice in the world? Certainly not.
But it does enable us to compensate for disadvantages in our immediate surroundings to a modest extent, focusing on those who strive for social justice every day. Because we only understand true justice when we help to shape it ourselves.
World Social Justice Day reminds us that change starts small – with ourselves, in our companies and in our society. Let’s use this day to reflect on our responsibility and take action!
